At least once in our sales career, we sit down and think about how we can do our jobs better and more efficiently, to improve our chances of being recognized for being an effective salesperson, and for our hard work whether through a simple thank you, a promotion or even a pay increase. It can be hard to improve something that we are already content with, so these 7 simple tips will help you better your work processes in the hopes of being recognized at work.
1. Time Management – What needs to be said? Mastering this skill is imperative to any sector and every industry6, and even to our increasing productivity in our personal time as well. Being able to plan your time effectively and realistically will enable you to get more done in a day and never miss a deadline, if you can stick to your plan.
2. Care for the customer – If you show a customer you care during your sales pitch they will be more inclined to buy from you. Try to help them with whatever their situation may be, offer them a deal and make them feel valued throughout the process.
3. Build a rapport with customers and colleagues – Being able to communicate in an effective and friendly manner will do wonders for your conversion rate. Making the customer feel that they can be open and honest with you will help them to trust you, and opening up and being thoughtful with colleagues will make your time at work much easier and more enjoyable.
4. Networking – The more people you have to help you locate and inform customers the better. Networking is a tool you should never pass up the opportunity to utilize – it’s too valuable!
5. Emphasize the value and not the price – If you are struggling to make sales because the customers believe the price is too high, then rework your sales pitch sell them the effective value of your product and how it can benefit them, more than your competitors. Be careful, however, not to be insulting about your competitors. In fact, generally speaking you should probably not even speak about your competitors, and certainly not by name. Out of sight, out of mind.
6. Listen to the customers’ needs first, and then sell – A good salesman will listen to what the customer needs first, before trying to persuade them to buy something that doesn’t match their needs. By knowing what they want you can personalize the sales pitch to their requirements. You should know how your product can benefit them before you even go on the sales call.
7. Think positive and smile – This works across the board; if you’re in a positive frame of mind then everything about you will ooze an ethos of success. Always smile at colleagues and clients. A genuine smile will increase their trust in you and if you smile while you are talking on the phone it will make you sound happy and confident.
Even if you only put one of these tips into practice it should help you attain a sustainably higher conversion rate, and importantly, it will increase your value in the eyes of your superiors. If you excel at what you do and your boss is aware of that, you will duly be noticed in time for that thank you, promotion or pay increase.
