Writing a resume for any job is and will always remain the most important piece of writing you ever construct for your day to day life. It has to perfectly represent who you are and in such a way that a hiring manager will be instantly attracted to your resume over that of the other applicants. What is it then, that will make your sales rep resume a success?

Its standard across resumes for all sectors to ensure that you put as much information as you can in a concise manner in your resume. This includes your education and any relevant training you have had that can be applied to sales rep jobs. Hobbies and interests can be especially powerful if connected to the products or services you would sell if you were hired for the sales job you had applied for. Most importantly however, you will want to include a full employment history ensuring you don’t have any gaps in between previous jobs. If you happened to be unemployed, training or following a personal interest it is important that you mention these to present the hiring manager with a full history.

When writing a sales representative resume there are a few tips that you could follow to make your resume and application more applicable to the sector:

  • When writing your profile or bio hit it off with a high impact sales pitch, since this in the very end will be your bread and butter within the sales position.
  • Emphasize your resume to show how your skills and results contributed to your previous employer’s bottom line.
  • Use industry orientated lingo and keywords to show your knowledge and/or interest in said industry i.e. pharmaceuticals.
  • Under each of your previous employers be sure to include a brief paragraph on your responsibilities while in that position. Under that include a bulleted list of your top achievements within the company.
  • Make your achievement’s action packed, use the right words to make it sound that what you achieved was fundamental and truly beneficial to the company.
  • When stating your previous responsibilities and achievements you will need to remember your previous employer’s confidentiality statements or agreements. Many employers consider their sales strategies as confidential and detrimental to business if they were to end up in the competitions hands. Do not put yourself or any previous employers in jeopardy by disclosing confidential information.

Remember to be honest when writing your sales rep resume as any falsehoods or exaggerations will have your resume and any future application from yourself thrown away. You wouldn’t want to get into a position under false preferences that could be discovered during your sales career.
